The year 1964 marks the emergence of adult comics, in contrast to American comics aimed at
the youth. The exhibition and catalog trace 60 years of graphic creation and transformation in
comics, from *Hara Kiri* to the most contemporary artists. Through twelve themes and an
unexpected interplay of echoes between authors, it explores the imaginations of comics, the
emotions they evoke, and the diversity of techniques used.
Adventure, dreams, laughter,
science fiction, architecture, and intimate storytelling are among the themes explored. Among the
hundred or so essential figures gathered, special attention is given to women.
The catalog
focuses on reproducing original panels, cover illustrations, sketchbooks, and documentation
elements, highlighting the beauty of the line and the variety of techniques used, closely reflecting
the creative process.
All the texts are designed to offer an accessible and ambitious
approach to a subject as vast and fascinating as the 9th art. Notably, it includes an interview with
Joe Sacco by critic Paul Gravett, as well as an essay by Tristan Garcia: "Comics and Literature:
Sister Arts."
