The first adventure of Blake and Mortimer, The Secret of the Swordfish, already sets the stage
for the future adventures of the two friends. Published in the Journal de Tintin between 1946 and
1949, this story allowed Edgar P. Jacobs to make his mark in the world of comics through what he
calls "a paper spectacle."
While humans are often the main characters in comics, certain
vehicles also become legendary. During Blake and Mortimer's confrontation with the Yellow
Empire, several iconic planes make their appearance.
The Golden Rocket, the mythical
stratospheric plane, appears early in the plot. It allows the two heroes to escape the grasp of the
Yellow Empire and begin planning their counterattack.
This collectible wood panel is
offered by Akimoff and features the famous yellow plane. Printed on maple wood in a 20 x 20 cm
format, the image preserves the original colors while allowing the wood grain to show through.
