Les Cités Obscures is a series of albums created by François Schuiten and Benoît Peeters. To
complement these volumes and expand their unique world, various special editions have been
released. This image appears in the sixth special edition, L'Echo des Cités, dedicated to the
magazine of the same name, which holds the current affirs of the Obscure World.
The
image in this art print is accompanied by an article discussing the grand reception organized by
Mary Von Rathen on the occasion of the rebirth of Mylos. The depicted Green Lake is
accompanied by mechanical birds that were said to have been present at the event.
Although
the lake is the main focus of this offset print, several structures are visible. Schuiten masterfully
combines elements of a real place with those of this imaginary world. The former Waucquez stores
are recognizable by their iconic streetlamps emerging from the water. Characteristic Art Nouveau
arabesques accompany them, decorating the columns, remnants of these celebrations.
