Aboard the Nauti-poulpe, a hybrid creature both organic and mechanical, Captain Nemo
explores the various regions of the Obscure World, finally ending his adventure in Samarobrive.
This city, better known as Amiens, was Jules Verne's home. And it is in front of one of its most
iconic monuments, the Amiens Cathedral, that the Captain's journey comes to an
end.
Fourteen years after the release of the last volume, this new album stands out from the
others by the way the story and imagery interact. This rediscovery not only revisits the universe of
Les Cités Obscures but also that of Jules Verne.
Emerging from the water, the Nauti-
poulpe faces the Servadac temple, whose many features resemble the Amiens Cathedral. This
temple reflects Schuiten's talent for architectural drawing. The Gothic style of the monument is
recognizable and blends with the sketching to create the unique atmosphere so characteristic of
this work.
This digigraph, offered by Atlantic12, is taken from Le Retour du Capitaine
