With significant works like Les Cités Obscures, François Schuiten is one of the key artists in
contemporary comics. However, the lands of the Obscure World are not his only focus. He
frequently explores the landscapes of our world through the legendary Type 12 steam locomotive,
which he also features as one of the main characters in La Douce.
When this album was
published, Schuiten collaborated with Marie-Françoise Plissart to create "photo-drawings" for the
Galérie Champaka. With the release of the landscape-format edition of the album, La Type 12 au
Pont du Germoir was reissued in an offset print.
In this image, the Type 12 passes under the
bridge in the Ixelles commune during the night, standing out as the only color in a black-and-white
world.
