Lefranc is a comic book series created by Jacques Martin in the 1950s. The series has
been handled by numerous writers and artists and now counts over thirty volumes.
The Mystery of the Borg is the third album in the series and is also the
last to be drawn by Jacques Martin. It was released in 1965 by Casterman.
As
Lefranc and Jeanjean go to a ski resort in Switzerland, they find themselves unwitting
spectators of car chase. One of them ends up in flames, its driver having disappeared,
and Lefranc is suspected of causing the accident. Their misadventures do not stop there
as Lefranc is the victim of an attack during a ski competition and Jeanjean of an attempted
kidnapping. Finally, after conducting the investigation, they discover that Axel Borg is
behind this story. He has developed a biological bomb that he wants to test on the
Gardsten resort. He wants to prove its effectiveness in order to raise its price and sell it to
a foreign power. Lefranc chases Borg to Venice and manages to capture him before he
can use his bomb. A story full of action and twists, highlighting both the dreamy
atmosphere of the Swiss mountains and the car chases through the streets of Venice.
In this album, Jacques Martin perfectly shows what
Switzerland looked like in the 60s. An atmosphere of unease regned over the country
because, with the Cold War, people thought that confrontation would eventually take
place. It is this accuracy, accompanied by both nostalgia and childhood memories, that
prompted Golden Creek Studio to create a deluxe edition of this album: a superb black-
and-white board format book with two serigraphy prints on cello.
Limited edition of 495 numbered copies with a certificate of authenticity.
