Noir films are a significant source of inspiration for Miles Hyman, as evidenced by the play of
shadow and light in his drawings. But this strange yet comforting luminosity is not the only guiding
idea in his art. Red, whether crimson, cherry, or vermilion, appears in his drawings like a thread of
Ariadne, guiding the viewer's eye.
This image is from the exhibition "L'entre-deux
mondes" dedicated to the artist's universe in the city of Quimperlé in 2018. While the drawing is
not explicitly strange like some of the other exhibited images, it stands out with its dominant red
color. The woman in the center also seems out of place in the surrounding scene. With her opera
glasses in hand, she would be more fitting at the Metropolitan Opera, for example.
